Hello, lovely! I'm Odette Leigh Wicht, and I've had a penchant for fashion since I was a little girl. Back then, what I wore was a big deal to me—it had to be just right.

 

When I first encountered home economics in high school, I wasn't thrilled about making an apron or some odd garment. However, my mom, a creative soul with a sewing machine, changed my perspective. She was always crafting things, especially during the 'Knitwit' sewing trend. Mom, my mentor, guided me through the world of patterns and fabrics, patiently teaching me the ropes. She wasn't a fan of buttons and zips, so I took up that challenge and started making things for myself.

 

Even after school, I continued stitching up outfits for my own enjoyment. It all changed one day when I lamented to my dad about seeing someone else in the same store-bought outfit I loved. He reminded me that I knew how to sew—thanks to Mom's lessons—and encouraged me to make my own clothes. So, with Mom's machines, patterns, and fabrics, I embraced this new adventure. Occasionally, I'd get requests from friends to create something special, and it was truly rewarding.

 

Formal design schooling was short, but a dear friend from a design course became my design mentor. Dressmaking, for me, isn't just a job—it's a cherished talent, a passion. I absolutely adore what I do, even if it means working late into the night to finish a client's dream outfit.

 

For over 25 years, I've been immersed in the world of creating outfits, and in 2018, I decided to make it a full-time gig after leaving the corporate world. There's nothing like the delight on a client's face when they see their unique outfit come to life. It's the reason I love what I do. The repeat customers, the alterations, it all adds up to a beautiful journey of creativity and connection.

 

Every fabric I work with has its own magic. Beads, sequins, lace—each has its own story to tell in the final piece. And oh, the challenge of putting together a perfect ensemble based on a handful of pictures—a thrill that never gets old.
